Baseball America has profiled former UK first baseman and Southeastern Conference player of the year Ryan Strieby in its latest edition of the Detroit Tigers’ organization report. Detroit has moved Strieby from first base to left field this season to find a spot for him on the major league roster since Miguel Cabrera is entrenched at first base.
The Tigers have a number of players with Kentucky ties in their system (Strieby, Scott Green, Josh Anderson, Michael Bertram, Jordan Newton, Wade Gaynor) so it’s nice to see them making room for one of the state’s own. Strieby was the cornerstone to UK’s 2006 SEC Championship and was the Tigers’ fourth round pick following that season.
