UofL Summer League Wrap Up

College Baseball

Tony ZychYesterday we looked at the UK players summer league summary.  Today we head west on I-64 to check out the rival UofL Cardinals summer league results, including a World Championship.

Team USA

  • RHP Tony Zych — Zych was UofL’s summer star, contributing to the Team USA’s World Challenge Championship with an 0-1 record and 2.93 ERA in six games.  Tony struck out 17 batters in 15.1 innings and held opponents to a .224 batting average.  UofL coach Dan McDonnell also served on the Team USA coaching staff.

Coastal Plain League

  • Stewart Ijames — Thomasville HiToms– Ijames was named a mid-season All Star for the National League squad and finished the season tied for league lead in home runs with 12.  Ijames batted .282 in 48 games on the season and drove in 37 runs.
  • Drew Haynes — Florence RedWolves — Haynes batted .235 in 28 games with 12 RBI and 12 runs scored for Florence.  Drew was a perfect 7-7 in stealing bases.

Prospect League

  • RHP Justin Amlung — Danville Dans — Amlung was named a mid-season All-Star for Danville in the Prospect League.  Amlung finished the season at 1-0 with a 3.32 ERA in 10 games.  Justin made seven starts for Danville and also recorded one save on the season.

Cape Cod League

  • LHP Dean Kiekhefer — Wareham Gateman — Keikhefer made 12 relief appearances for Wareham of the Cape Cod League.  Kiekhefer finished the season at 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA in 18.1 innings.  Dean recorded two saves and struck out 23 batters.

New York Collegiate Baseball League

  • LHP Joe Stilphen — Saratoga Phillies — Stilphen started five games for Saratoga and averaged over six innings a start, finishing with 32.2 innings on the season.  Joe struck out 21 and walked 16.  He finished with a 1-1 record and 5.23 ERA.

Northwoods League

  • RHP Derek Self — Madison Mallards — Self finished the season at 2-2 with a 3.29 ERA in eight games for Madison.  Derek made three starts for the Mallards and struck out 14 batters in 27.1 innings.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

  • 2B Adam Duvall — Sanford Mainers — Duvall batted .279 with 10 RBI and 13 runs scored in 25 games for Sanford.  Adam started 21 games for the Mainers and finished the season with a .950 fielding percentage.
  • RHP Neil Holland — Sanford Mainers — Holland was lights out in the Mainers bullpen with a 3-3 record and 0.90 ERA in 17 games.  Neil struck out 23 in 20.1 innings and surrendered only two earned runs on the season.
  • C Tim Hayes — Keene Swamp Bats — Haynes struggled in backup duty for the Swamp Bats, batting .195 in 17 games.  Tim made 15 starts for Keene and hit one home run with 13 RBI.
  • RHP Tyler Mathis — Keene Swamp Bats — Mathis made five starts of the season for Keene and finished the summer with a 1-1 record and 3.80 ERA.  Tyler struck out 15 batters in 23.2 innings.
