The Phillies had no need for UK alum Joe Blanton out of the pen in game one of the World Series as ace Cliff Lee earned a complete-game victory. Lee’s extended performance may alter the Phillies’ plan to bring him back on three days rest, so that throws Blanton’s up in the air even more.
- Chris Heisey was 0-3 with two walks and a run scored for Peoria in the AFL. Teammate Yonder Alonso was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Lafayette alum Chaz Roe took a loss after giving up five runs, one earned, in two-thirds of an inning for Scottsdale in the AFL. Both outs Roe recorded were strikeouts.
- Count Sports Illustrated’s John Heyman among those who thing the D’Backs are picking up Brandon Webb’s contract option.
