Kearns signs minor league deal with the Indians

Lexington-native Austin Kearns has signed a Minor League contract with the Cleveland Indians and will compete for a reserve outfield roll with the team during Spring Training, Austin Castrovince of MLB.com reports. Kearns batted .195 with 17 RBI in 80 games for the Washington Nationals in 2009. His season was ended early by a thumb injury. (Read more)

Kearns attended Lafayette High School in Lexington before being selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round of the 1998 MLB draft.
