The University of Kentucky couldn’t have asked for a much better start to its 2010 season after the Cats defeated Virginia Tech 15-6 in game one of the Caravelle Resort Invitational. The Cats were paced by junior leadoff man and second baseman Chris Bisson who was 4-5 with a two runs scored and two RBI. Redshirt senior Gunner Glad added three RBI in his first career start in right-field, and all but one UK batter recorded at least one hit. Sophomore third baseman Andy Burns and senior outfielder Keenan Wiley both homered for the Cats.
Sophomore ace Alex Meyer was lights out early and finished the afternoon with four hits and two earned runs allowed in five innings for his first win of the season. Meyer walked three and struck out eight batters. UK head coach Gary Henderson used the blowout to get freshman reliever Sam Kidd his first collegiate action out of the pen. (Box Score)
BluGrass Baseball POG: Chris Bisson — The preseason All-American lived up to his high billing in the first game of 2010 with four hits, two runs and two RBI. Bisson added a walk and a stolen base for good measure.
