Eastern Kentucky University probably wishes its season had waited another day to start after an 11-4 blowout loss to Western Carolina in game one of the 2010 season. Colonels’ senior first baseman Anthony Ottrando launched two solo home runs in the game, but the Western Carolina offense was too much for EKU’s pitching. Starting pitcher Matt Harris surrendered nine runs, eight earned in three plus innings.
Preseason All-American junior third baseman Jayson Langfels also homered in the game for the Colonels and added two RBI. EKU sophomore designated hitter Jacob Daniel was the only other EKU player to record a hit in the game. (Box Score)
BluGrass Baseball POG: Anthony Ottrando — Lets face it, not a lot went right for EKU in its season opener, but Ottrando did his part. He started the scoring with a solo shot in the second inning, and added his second home run of the game in the sixth. Ottrando hit eight home runs in 2009.
