Four-run sixth sends Belmont to 5-3 win over WKU

Belmont University used a four-run sixth inning to beat its season Kentucky college in as many days. The loss dropped Western Kentucky University to 6-2 on the season and ended its six-game winning streak. Freshman catcher Ryan Huck hit his first career home run, and sophomore center fielder Kes Carter was 2-4 in the game.

Sophomore right-handed reliever Phil Wetherell took the loss after allowing four runs in two and one-third innings. Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Brian Edelen allowed just one hit in three innings in his first start of the season. Senior designated hitter Matt Rice drove in one run for the Hilltoppers. BluGrass Baseball POG: Ryan Huck — Huck was 1-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in the game. The long ball was the first of Huck’s collegiate career and came in his first start at catcher. The freshman is now 5-10 (.500) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored on the season.
