The University of Louisville moved to 12-0 Tuesday by using a four-run eighth inning rally to put away border rival Indiana 9-7. The Cards were led by senior infielder Phil Wunderlich, who was 3-4 with two home runs and five RBI. His two-run blast in the eighth inning tied the game before freshman Cade Stallings drove in the go-ahead run. Junior right-handed reliever Gabriel Shaw earned the win after giving up one run in two innings, and junior righty Neil Holland recorded the save with a scoreless ninth.
Senior shortstop Adam Duvall and redshirt sophomore right fielder Stewart Ijames each drove in one run for the Cards. Freshman second baseman Kyle Grieshaber, batting leadoff in place of injured outfielder Josh Richmond, scored twice in the game. Redshirt freshman right-handed starting pitcher Justin Amlung took a no decision after allowing three runs in five innings. (Box Score)
BluGrass Baseball POG: Phil Wunderlich — The senior slugger narrowly missed being named the state player of the week for his performance in week three but did pick up Big East player of the week honors. After a two-home run, five RBI performance Tuesday, Wunderlich looks well on his way to defending that title and earning his first BluGrass Baseball player of the week honor.
