After a brief mid-afternoon break we’re back on the highlights series with our fourth installment, the Murray State University Thoroughbreds. The Breds took two of three games from St. Louis in Murray this weekend. I’m writing this as I get my first view of the Breds this season at Cliff Hagan Stadium. On a side note, I’m going to start referring to the team by the baseball mascot, the Thoroughbreds, instead of the standard mascot, the Racers.
- Moore hits for the cycle: Murray State freshman third baseman Colton Moore posted the best weekend of his young career and started off the series by hitting for the cycle Friday. Moore was 4-5 in the game with six RBI, two runs scored, one home run, one triple and one double. For the series, Moore was 10-16 (.625) with one home run, four doubles, a triple, seven RBI and three runs scored.
- Cunningham continues to rake: On the season, senior first baseman Wes Cunningham is batting .406 with five home runs and 17 RBI. Over the weekend, Cunningham was 7-15 (.467) with a home run, one triple and three doubles.
- Craycraft wins third: On Friday Senior right-handed ace Chris Craycraft picked up his third win of the season in four starts for the Breds. Craycraft allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits in seven innings for the win. He also struck out six and walked two. On the season he is 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.
