Week five weekend highlights: University of Louisville

The University of Louisville finished the weekend 2-1 against Ball State. Sunday’s game was moved to Saturday as part of a doubleheader due to fear of bad weather in the River City. The Cards split the Saturday doubleheader. Take a look at some weekend highlights from UofL below:

  • Wright over .400 on the season: Sophomore shortstop Ryan Wright raised his batting average to .405 on the season with a 6-9 weekend. Wright launched his third home run of the season Friday and added three RBI and three runs scored on the weekend. The shortstop sat out the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
  • Wunderlich goes deep three times: Senior infielder Phil Wunderlich launched three home runs on the weekend, bringing his season total to nine long balls. On the year Wunderlich is batting .375 with nine home runs, 27 RBI and 20 runs scored. The senior slugger went 0-4 in the series finale.
  • The necessary information: Junior right-handed pitcher Thomas Royse picked up his fourth win of the season Friday but allowed seven runs in six and two-third innings. Junior left-handed pitcher Dean Kiekhefer was lights out with seven innings of one-run ball in game one Saturday for his second win. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Tony Zych took the loss in game two Saturday, while junior reliever Neil Holland picked up his four save Friday.
