The final April minor league awards post looks at alumni of Kentucky high schools and colleges. Added consideration will be given to players performing at higher levels of MiLB. Check out the April awards below:
Hitter of the month: OF Jacob Shaffer (High A High Desert)
- Stats: .317/.348/.429 — 1 HR, 12 RBI, 6 R
- Shafer, a Northern Kentucky University alum and Walton native, led Kentucky alumni with his .317 batting average in April. The 2008 15th-round pick of the Mariners, batted .285 with seven home runs in 97 game in 2009 at low A Clinton.
- Honorable Mention: OF John Shelby, 3B Chris Dominguez, OF Ben Revere, OF Sawyer Carroll, OF Tyler Kuhn
Pitcher of the month: LHP Christian Friedrich (AA Tulsa)
- Stats: 0-1, 2.81 ERA, 16 SO/4 BB, 16 IP
- Friedrich was dominating through his first three starts of the season, but will being May on the disabled list with an arm injury. The Eastern Kentucky University alum is the best prospect among Kentucky alumni and pitched like it during the first month of the season.
