Recaps from Wednesday Kentucky college baseball action:

  • No. 9 University of Louisville finished a two-game sweep of Ohio State University with a 10-8 win in Ohio Wednesday. Sophomore shortstop Ryan Wright led the Cards with a 3-5 performance. He drove in three runs and scored once. Senior third baseman Phil Wunderlich took the state lead in home runs with his 18th long ball of the season. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Derek Self remained unbeaten in his career with the win, moving to 7-0 on the season following a 7-0 freshman campaign in 2009. Junior closer Neil Holland pitched the final two innings to record his state-leading 12th save. (Box Score)
  • Playing for the first time in over a week, Eastern Kentucky University defeated Ohio 11-10 in dramatic fashion with a sacrifice fly from junior center fielder Richie Allen in the ninth inning. (See video above) Allen tallied three hits in the game, and senior first baseman Anthony Ottrando was 3-5 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Richie Rodriguez also homered for the Colonels. Freshman right-handed pitcher Ryne Purcell recorded the win after surrendering one run in the top of the ninth inning. (Box Score)
