A nine-run fourth inning wasn’t enough to propel Murray Stat University to victory in its opening game of 2011. A poor pitching performance led the Breds to a 15-10 loss to UNC Asheville in the 2011 opener. Murray St. junior left-handed pitcher Bryan Babin took the loss after surrendering seven runs on eight hits in one and two-third innings pitched. Junior-college transfer Tyler Beers, who started the game for the Breds, struggled in his Murray St. debut, surrendering four runs on six hits in three innings.
Murray St. rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to take a 9-4 lead after its fourth-inning offensive outburst. The Breds tallied a double and seven singles in the inning. UNC Asheville aided Murray St.’s cause with an error that allowed the ninth run to score. Sophomore shortstop Brandon Elliott finished the game at 3-5 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Senior left fielder Zach Noonan was 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. (Box Sc0re)
