The University of Kentucky has released its 2010 baseball schedule, and the Cats will face the usual daunting Southeastern Conference slate. “The conference is going to be extremely competitive again,” UK Head Coach Gary Henderson said in a news release. “We are going to have as many returning players as ever in the league. When you look at the rosters and stats from around the conference, there is no weak team. It is going to be a great challenge from week to week. It is an absolute grind, 10 weeks of tremendous competition in great environments for college baseball.”

The 2010 UK baseball newcomers have been ranked the sixth best recruiting class in the country by Collegiate Baseball. According to a news release from UK Athletics, the Cats ranked behind Florida (1) and LSU (3) among SEC teams. UofL ranked 28th on the list.
The 13-man class is headlined by five 2009 MLB draft picks including RHP Jordan Cooper, the top-ranked high school pitching prospect in Tennessee according to Baseball America, and catcher Luke Maile, the top high school prospect from Kentucky. Outfielders Sam Kidd and Brian Adams (a football signee) and LHP Taylor Rogers were also selected in the 2009 draft. UK will welcome four transfers to campus, including 2008 freshman All-American shortstop Taylor Back, who previously played at Charleston Southern. (Read more)
