Morehead wins finale against IPFW 13-12 Sunday

College Baseball

Morehead State University held off a late rally from IPFW to preserve a 13-12 victory and series win Sunday. The Eagles allowed five runs in the top of the ninth inning, but freshman left-handed reliever Garrett Whittle entered the game with the tieing run on base and recorded the final two outs of the game for his first career save. Sophomore left fielder Luke Bainer led the Eagles with three hits, and senior center fielder J. D. Ashbrook launched a home run and drove in three.

Six Eagles tallied at least two hits, and just one starter went hitless in the game. Five Morehead batters scored at least twice, and four Eagles drove in at least two runs. Morehead improved to 11-12 on the season. (Box Score)

BluGrass Baseball POG: Cameron Flynn — The sophomore designated hitter was 2-2 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the game. The long ball was Flynn’s fourth of the season, and he now has 14 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Two Eagles drive in six to lead Morehead to 21-6 blowout

College Baseball

Morehead State University sophomore catcher Taylor Davis and junior infielder Michael Fear each tallied four hits, a home run and six RBI in the Eagles’ 21-6 blowout of IPFW Friday. Six Morehead State batters recorded multiple hits in the game, and four Eagles scored at least three times. Junior right-handed pitcher Jeff Arnold recorded the win after allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings. Morehead improved to 9-11 on the season. (Box Score)

BluGrass Baseball POGs: Taylor Davis — Davis and Fear each recorded four hits, one home run and six RBI, but Davis earns the nod for player of the game because he scored four times compared to Fear’s once. Davis brought his average over .300 on the season with the performance and now has three home runs and 21 RBI.
