EKU picks up 5-2 win over Purdue in home opener

College Baseball

Eastern Kentucky University picked up a 5-2 win over Purdue in its 2010 home opener behind junior third baseman Jayson Langfels and junior outfielder Ryan Faidley. Freshman right-handed pitcher Alex Rexroat earned his first career victory after allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. Junior right-handed reliever Ryne Purcell picked up his state-leading fifth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Langfels launched a two-run home run in third, and Faidley followed one batter later with his own solo shot. The two Colonels combined to drive in all five EKU runs in the game. Sophomore right-handed reliever Matt Harris allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings out of the Colonel bullpen. EKU improved to 7-6 on the season. (Box Score)
