aj ellisTuesday marked the official expansion of MLB rosters from 25 to 40.  While no team actually carries 40 players during the “September Callup” period, many teams bring some young players up from the minor leagues to either reinforce their team for a playoff run or have and extended audition for next season.  We’ll use this post to keep track of any players with Kentucky ties that are called up to the big leagues as minor league seasons end. Major-league players who were activated from the disabled list because of the expanded rosters are also noted. New additions are bolded.

Sunday Links: Legends Take Game Two

The Legends moved a game ahead of Bowling Green in the full-season standings with a 3-1 victory in the “Battle for the BluGrass” Sunday.  Bowling Green has to win the final two games of the season to finish ahead of their state rivals.

  • The Legends report Brandon Wikoff’s two-run single in the seventh was the difference in their 3-1 victory.
  • The Hot Rods report Shane Dyer held the Legends to one run in six innings in the 3-1 loss.
  • Rehabbing Reds Jay Bruce and Ryan Hannigan were 6-10 with four runs scored in a 7-4 victory over Indianapolis.

  • The University of Tennessee has released its 2010 baseball schedule.  UT will play vs. EKU on March 3, at WKU on March 9 and vs. UK April 30-May 3.
  • UK has a news release about Logan Darnell being included on BA’s top prospects in the Alaska League.
  • Cincinnati Reds standouts Jay Bruce and Ryan Hannigan will begin rehab assignments with Louisville tonight.
  • UK head basketball coach John Calipari visited with the Logan County Little League team Wednesday during a tour of Western Kentucky for books signings.
  • I missed this story last week, but it’s still worth passing along.  Nick Craddock of the Kentucky Kernel reports on the UK Club Baseball’s teams second consecutive national championship.
