  • Troy scored five unearned runs to send Western Kentucky University to a 6-3 loss in game one of a three-game series. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tanner Perkins suffered just his second loss of the season after surrendering six runs, just one of which was earned, on five hits in seven innings while striking out six batters and walking three. Junior right fielder Ryan Hutchinson was 2-3 with one run scored, and junior shortstop Logan Robbins was 2-4. Sophomore first baseman Ryan Huck slugged his third home run of the season. (Box Score)
  • The University of Louisville used a five-run fifth inning to earn a 7-2 win in game two of a three-game series versus South Florida. Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Justin Amlung earned the win after surrendering two runs on six hits in seven innings while striking out eight batters and walking five. Junior shortstop Ryan Wright 3-4 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior catcher J. J. Ethel was 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored. (Box Score)
  • The University of Kentucky‘s series opener versus Arkansas was rained out and will be made up as part of a double-header on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
  • Eastern Kentucky University surrendered eight runs in the seventh inning in an 11-2 loss to UT Martin. Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Fyffe took the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits in four innings while striking out five batters and walking two. Junior left fielder Jacob Daniel was 2-4 with one triple, one RBI and one run scored. Game two of the Colonels’ scheduled double-header was suspended with EKU down 5-2 in the top of the fifth.   • Murray State University‘s double-header versus Eastern Illinois was rained out on Friday. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday.
  • Morehead State University suffered its 30th loss of the season with a 10-5 loss to Tennessee Tech in game one of a double-header. Senior right-handed pitcher Trey Smith fell to 0-8 on the season after surrendering seven runs on five hits in four and one-third innings. Junior catcher Taylor Davis was 2-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored, and  senior second baseman Travis Redmon was 1-3 with one home run, two RBI and one run scored.   • Morehead St. earned its second Ohio Valley Conference win of the season with a 7-3 victory over Tennessee Tech in game two of the double-header. Perkins improved to 6-1 on the season after surrendering just four hits in seven innings while striking out eight batters and walking one.   • A complete-game effort from junior right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer wasn’t enough for the University of Kentucky to avoid a 3-1 loss to No. 3 South Carolina in game one of its three-game series. Meyer fell to 3-4 on the season after surrendering three runs on six hits in eight innings while striking out eight batters and walking five. The Cats tallied just three hits against USC ace Michael Roth, and no UK batter had multiple hits in the game.   • SIU Edwardsville scored eight runs through the first three innings and piled on from there to send Morehead State University to a 14-5 loss.   • Western Kentucky University suffered its first Sun Belt Conference loss and snapped an eight-game winning streak with a 9-8 loss to FIU in 10 innings. Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Rye Davis took the loss after surrendering two runs in the tenth inning while recording two outs. Junior left fielder Jared Andreoli was 3-6, and junior right fielder Ryan Hutchinson was 3-6 with one home run, two RBI and one run scored.   • Eastern Kentucky University’s losing streak reached six games with a 6-3 loss to Miami (OH). Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Harris took the loss after surrendering three runs in one inning in his first start of the season. The Colonels used the midweek game to get its bullpen some work with nine different pitchers going one inning.   • If last week’s loss to Georgetown College wasn’t the low point of the 2011 season, Morehead State University hit that point Tuesday with a 32-17 loss to Canisius. Three different Eagles pitchers surrendered at least six runs in the game with the loss going to sophomore right-handed pitcher Cody Gibson, who surrendered seven runs on eight hits in two and two-third innings. Canisius tallied 28 hits and scored in every inning except the first and fourth. Koch surrendered two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits in eight innings while striking out seven batters and walking one to earn his second win of the season. Freshman first baseman Ryan Seiz was 2-5 with one double, two RBI and one run scored, and senior catcher J. J. Ethel was 2-4 with two doubles and one RBI.   • Western Kentucky University rode a complete-game performance from sophomore left-handed pitcher Tanner Perkins to a 3-1 win in game one of its series versus Illinois. Perkins surrendered on run on three hits in nine innings while striking out six and walking none. At one point Perkins retired 21 batters in a row. Rogers surrendered two runs on seven hits in seven innings while striking out five batters and walking one. Junior first baseman Michael Williams was 2-4 with his third home run of the season, and freshman infielder Dallen Reber launched a pinch-hit home run in eighth inning in just his second collegiate at-bat.   • Murray State University tallied nine hits but scored just two runs in a 9-2 loss to IPFW. Junior left-handed pitcher Luke Shuemaker took the loss after surrendering five runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits in six innings while striking out four batters and walking two. Sophomore shortstop Brandon Elliott was 3-3 with one walk and two runs scored, and junior second baseman Travis Isaak was 2-4 with two RBI. (Box Score)
  • Morehead State University earned its second win of the season with a 6-4 victory over La Salle in game one of a three-game series. Junior right-handed pitcher Matthew Robertson struck out two batters in two scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. Junior catcher Taylor Davis was 4-4 with one double, one RBI and one run scored, and senior second baseman Travis Redmon was 3-5 with two runs scored. Kime’s stellar debut leads UofL to 6-1 win over Morehead St.

College Baseball

Freshman right-handed pitcher Dace Kime surrendered just one hit in five scoreless innings in his collegiate debut to lead the University of Louisville to a 6-1 win over Morehead State University in the second intrastate matchup of the season. Kime struck out seven batters and walked none to earn his first collegiate win. At the plate UofL redshirt junior right fielder Stewart Ijames was 2-4 with a triple and two RBI. UofL junior second baseman Ryan Wright scored two runs in the game. Senior left fielder Drew Haynes was 2-3 with one run scored.

Morehead St. freshman left-handed pitcher Noah Smallwood took the loss after surrendering four runs, three of which were earned, on three hits in four and one-third innings. Smallwood struck out one batter and walked two. Morehead St. junior designated hitter Eric Bainer was 2-4 in the game. Morehead St. senior second baseman Travis Redmon recorded the lone RBI for the Eagles, and junior right fielder Luke Bainer scored the team’s only run. (Box Score)
