  • The University of Louisville (11) rallied for an 8-7 win over Evansville with two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Senior infielder Phil Wunderlich and redshirt sophomore outfielder Stewart Ijames both homered for the Cards. Junior right-handed closer Neil Holland earned his third win of the season. (Box Score)
  • Home runs from junior shortstop Taylor Black, sophomore right fielder Cory Farris and senior catcher Marcus Nidiffer led the University of Kentucky to a 11-6 win over Xavier. Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Nick Kennedy picked up his first win of the season in relief. (Box Score)
  • Senior shortstop Drew Lee broke the Morehead State University record for career runs scored in a 20-15 victory over Indiana. Six different Eagles tallied at least three hits in the game, and five launched a home run. Sophomore outfielder Cameron Flynn drove in six runs in the game. (Box Score)
  • Sophomore left-handed pitcher Greg Terry earned the win after allowing three runs in six innings, and junior third baseman Jayson Langfels was a perfect 2-2 with two runs scored and a walk in Eastern Kentucky University‘s 7-3 win over Miami (OH). Purdue rallies for three in eighth to take down EKU 7-3

College Baseball

Purdue University scored three runs in the eighth inning and added two insurance runs in the ninth inning to defeat Eastern Kentucky University 7-3 Wednesday and earn a split in the two-game mid-week series. Junior right-handed closer Ryne Purcell took the loss after allowing three runs in one inning. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Greg Terry cemented his spot as the Colonels best pitcher thus far in 2010 with a no decision after allowing two runs in six innings.

Sophomore designated hitter Jacob Daniel paced the EKU offense with two hits, and sophomore shortstop Richie Rodriguez and sophomore right fielder Michael Garcia each drove in a run. Grisham, senior first baseman Anthony Ottrando and junior left fielder Ryan Faidley each scored a run for EKU. The Colonels fell to 7-7 on the season. (Box Score)

BluGrass Baseball POG: Greg Terry — Terry has been the Colonels best pitcher thus far in 2010 after being used mostly as a reliever early this season. In his second start of the year, Terry allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out one and walked one in the no decision. On the year Terry is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched.

Each conference gives out a weekly player, pitcher and freshman of the week honors on Monday for the previous week’s play. Since I like to consider BluGrass Baseball a sort of conference of its own, we’ll play copy cat and issue similar awards each week. To be eligible, players must be on a Kentucky college team or a graduate of a Kentucky high school playing elsewhere in college baseball.

EKU rallies from down seven to win 12-9 over Western Car.

College Baseball

Eastern Kentucky University rallied from down 8-1 in the fourth inning against Western Carolina to win 12-9 and earn its first victory of the season. Junior catcher Joey Stevens launched a go-ahead three run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give EKU the win. Senior first baseman Anthony Ottrando was 2-2 with a home run, two walks, a run scored and five RBI one day after launching two home runs in the season opener.

Preseason All-American third baseman Jayson Langfels was 2-4 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore left-handed reliever Greg Terry earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning. Junior right-handed reliever Ryne Purcell recorded his first save with a scoreless ninth. EKU improved to 1-1 on the year. (Box Score)
